• Let’s talk biologics and PF!

Recently, my co-moderator, Sam, made a post about the myriad of medications patients take for pulmonary fibrosis. It doesn’t seem to matter whether you’re pre-transplant or post; many of us rely heavily on medications daily to manage this disease.

In August 2023, I wrote a column about requiring a biologic medication to help manage the symptoms of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). While I was on that medication for nearly a year, it unfortunately didn’t result in significant enough improvements for me to remain on it, as it was incredibly expensive and I ended up with a major side effect – a head-to-toe rash that was hard to get rid of! Now my Pulmonologist is considering putting me on a different biologic. Its intention is not to reduce or stop the progression of the fibrosis, but rather to manage the symptoms of breathlessness and reduce exacerbation risks.

I’m curious, has anyone else been prescribed a biologic and had success with it in managing symptoms?

I’d love to hear from you!
