I found very good results preventing Ofev induced diarrhea using Colestipol. It was recommended to me by a Gastroenterologist who gives it to his patients with irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea. I started taking 1 gram three times a day(they are very large pills), but eventually cut back to 1 gram a day(larger doses made me constipated). I am taking ofev 150 mg twice daily.
I was overweight, and needed to lose weight to qualify for transplant. I lost 80 # using the GLP-1 drug tirzepatide (generic for mounjoro) and following a strict low carb diet. The tirzepatide causes constipation, so much so that I stopped the colestipol altogether. Now I take stool softeners and it balances things.
I’ve had IPF since 2020. I’ve been on the ofev since diagnosed(1/20). I started using 02 at 2 l/m NC in 2022 when physically active( rehab exercises-treadmill, nu-step, reclining bike). I have since gone up to 5 l/m NC with exercise. I find my need for it is now with less strenuous exercise, very short walking. I found an old x ray report that said “moderate pulmonary fibrosis” that was taken in 2018(2 years before I was diagnosed). That was when I was having an Emergency heart cath and I guess at the time the Doc’s were worried about getting me to the cath lab for a Stent and no one addressed the chest x ray. The Stent probably saved my life at the time, and I didn’t see the x ray report untill 2022(4 years after it was taken, 2 years after I was diagnosed during a bout of pneumonia). So, I guess I’ve at least had IPF for 7 years, now(would have been 5 based on when I was formally diagnosed). I haven’t made a fuss over it. Wouldn’t have changed anything and I’m kind of beating the odds having made it 7 years. I have my first meeting(virtual) with the transplant folks Friday. Kind of got off topic.
Anyways. Try colestipol for ofev induced diarrhea. Worked for me. I think I’m still here because of ofev, rehab, and 02.
