    Another quick update,

Had my 2nd stem cell treatment in early July with a checkup with my pulmonary Dr at the end of August. Based on what my Dr said, the medical community has little belief in stem cell treatment for IPF or COPD even though testimonials of patients that have gone through with the treatment claim that they have seen improvement in their lung functions. Personally I cannot say one way or the other. The treatment has not hurt my lung functions. I continue my Esbriet medication and have been lucky with very little side effect. My measurements like FVC and FEV1 has been stable, but my DLCO has varied over the 2 years I have been on Esbriet. My last measurement shows a reduction in my lung absorbtion rate from a high of 67 to now a low of 51. Had hoped the the stem cell treatment would have improved this function. Further testing of my lungs to be done in December.
I cannot say one way or another if the stem cell treatment improved my lung functions, thus I cannot make any recommendations in this regard. Hopefully the research will continue and we will see improvements in treating IPF. It is an awful disease and I have the same concerns as many of you have posted on the forum as to what the quality of life will bring down the road.

Wish the best to all of you out there!

    Regards – Rune
