I&#8217;ve had IPF for 23 years. I&#8217;m sorry to say I&#8217;m not educated on the hereditary gene aspect of it. My IPF was environmental. Something I breathed in caused it. Could I have passed this on to my son. He is 19 now and I was diagnosed 23 years ago. No one has mentioned that that could be a possibility. I&#8217;m Stephanie, I&#8217;m new to the group. I was diagnosed in 2001,22 years ago. I was told I would only live 3days. I have good news for everyone. There is the possibility to improve. I am proof of that. I was told before my biopsy that I more than likely would not come off life support. They gave me three days to live.
