I only speak up if it’s indoors or right next to me; last month in a grocery line I asked a guy to step outside because it kicked off my cough, and he apologized. Mostly I just walk away to keep my stress low.

For me, switching up my meals and taking my meds with protein-rich foods made a clear difference. I also tried different fiber supplements and found that a plain psyllium capsule in the evening made things more predictable.

He hid the severity, and it hit us hard later. Honesty early on would’ve helped us all. Keep it simple: tell them it’s a serious, progressive lung disease. Let them ask questions. You don’t have to drop everything at once, just start the real conversation. It’s better than leaving them guessing.

I’ve noticed my breathing gets challenged on mild activities too, especially if I’m not doing regular exercise. Singing definitely helps, though, I joined a local group for a while and noticed my lung capacity improved a bit too, just from learning to control my breath better.
