@steve-dragoo Sorry to have taken so long to respond. I couldn’t figure out how to not carry on a chat inside a Forum topic. Hope this is the way!
My field of expertise was neurodiagnostics and polysomnogray. It served me well and I am now retired. I, too, carry your sentiment regarding Covid-19 and am taking precautions to limit my exposure…[Read more]

Hi everyone,
I’m one year post diagnosis with only the dry cough and a hand full of episodes of shortness of breath. Covid-19 has thrown a wrench into followup with my pulmonologist (i.e., closing PF lab, etc.). I’m hopeful my next appointment in a week will go as planned as I want to ask about the natural products available for IPF t…[Read more]

Count me in the chorus of those receiving a friend request from “johnson”. Glad to know I’m not alone but am curious if by just clicking on the link something hasn’t been added to my machine? One can never be too careful!

JR German replied to the topic Gabapentin For IPF-Related Cough? in the forum Diagnosis Information and General Questions 3 years, 7 months ago
I began with 300mg per day with minimal cough reduction. Then went to 600mg per day, which seems to be doing the trick. I still have the occasional dry hack but nothing like it was originally.

Amazing! As a recent diagnosee I am still learning about PF and the impacts it has on routine life activities. Emergency support never crossed my mind. I do wear dog tags that are connected to RoadID, which allows me to enter a detailed medical record for first responders. I purchased it a few years ago when I was still riding my bicycle to…[Read more]

Off label relates to the use of a medication for something it has not been listed as treating. In this case, gabapentin (Neurontin) is not listed as treatment for coughs. But, one of its side effects is diminishing cough. That would be “off label”.

My dry cough puzzled my pulmonologist for a few months. He prescribed amitriptyline, which helped me sleep but did not alter the cough. On my next followup, he took me off the amitriptyline and started 300mg per day of gabapentin. It helped some but when he up’d the dose to 600mg per day the cough began to respond. The reason for my cough did…[Read more]

Hey JR – no worries That’s an awesome career. I should have stayed in medicine after the USN as I would have become a PA. Have 2 family members as doctors and a few RN’s too.
There is a lot of confusion about the ccp virus and the USA media has continuously stirred the pot in all directions – so has some of the medical profession. I…[Read more]
