While Michael did not have IPF/PF, it feels fitting this memoriam is made to our forums as he was an integral part in getting the Pulmonary Fibrosis News Forums off the ground several years ago!

Outside of his diagnosis of SMA, Michael was a valued employee of BioNews, the parent company of Pulmonary Fibrosis News. You may have even interacted with him on our forums, as he (and Kevin Schaefer) often stepped in to help moderate these forums when I was ill or needed some time away to focus on my health issues. I had the privileged of working with Michael for over 8 years. While my interactions with him were more frequent in the earlier days, compared to the last couple of years, there are some things about him I will never forget:

    1. His thoroughness drove me crazy at times! Michael was deeply dedicated to his work and as a result, he wanted things done right and done well. This results in a thoroughness that was unmatched to anyone else; he took his job seriously and wanted that reflected in those he supervised.

    2. His kindness was out of this world. Even in the last few years when we didn’t interact a lot on Slack (the online virtual office BioNews uses for employees), he was quick to ask how I was doing or if there was anything he could help with. The fact that this kindness is no longer in the world, has made things seem a little darker since his passing.

    3. He never hesitated to share a laugh! Whether it be through responding to a post with a joke or a sarcastic comment, or providing a GIF or meme with his face on it; Michael always made you laugh.

Rest in peace our dear friend, and know that while your SMA community is grieving you; the PF community is remembering and missing you too.
