The solution I chose to fix the kinking problem with my hose is to run the hose beneath and up behind the machine and reconnect it to the mail and therefore when you pull on the holes it doesn’t stream that connection

Hi Anne;
I too am in my senior years (74) to be precise, I too am inflicted with IPF and I too have recently been treated for lung cancer with radiation. This recent treatment with radiation has brought on an extreme exasperation to a point that just walking 50 feet has me gasping for breath. With this said I would say you definitely belong in…[Read more] -

I have just started the process of being considered for a long transplant I am 73 years old soon to turn 74. I have been reasonably able to do most things while on 3% supplemental oxygen and it has only been a week now that I have lost significant lung capacity. My weight is about average for my age I have remained healthy throughout my …[Read more]

Hi Charlene,
It has been some time for me since I actually commented on this site and I just read the above comments regarding traveling with a POC. I have been using an inogen POC since early August 2020 and I am on 3 lts continuously. My issue with this method is it very restrictive in terms of battery life, I am using the battery that was…[Read more]

@pammckee Pam I was diagnosed with IPF 9 years ago this past February and only started oxygen June 2020 and am still ambulatory with oxygen. I still try to live a full life although the oxygen can be somewhat cumbersome I continue to survive. Please think positive and don’t give in as each day new things are discovered.

Thanks Mark and I meant to say I am a 72 year old male, although I think how I stated my age reflects how really older I am.

Hi Mark I am a year old male living in Northern NY (I not worried about going to hell as I’M told I already live there) and I was diagnosed with IPF in February 2012. It was by chance they found it after my attending physician ordered a c-scan with contrast as they could see enlarged limp nodes surrounding the lungs . I was living a normal life…[Read more]

Well I have now lived nearly 9 years with the knowledge of having IPF and I don’t have to tell any of you the adjustments I had to make to life in general. I first had to get my head on straight and then I tried to educate myself on the disease as best I could. For the first 8 years I had been virtually A symptomatic and I was going about life as…[Read more]

Hi Charlene
Regarding phlegm and IPF I too have a great deal of phlegm not so much during rest but daily sitting or active. I was diagnosed with IPF in January of 2012 and do not require supplemental oxygen to date. I did however radically alter my diet eating far more vegetables and illuminating carbs and bad sugars. I will soon turn 71 and am…[Read more]-
Hi Craig,
Thanks so much for the update and welcome again to the PF forums. Sorry to hear you deal with this unpleasant side effect of excessive phlegm as well. I just wrote to another member of the forum about this; it seems so many folks deal with this as a side effect of IPF, and yet the literature and doctors are often unaware that it exists.…[Read more]

You are welcome Charlene. I have a 65 year old female friend who was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis before I was and last month one of her lungs collapsed due to a hole created from scaring. She has been in and out of the hospital for almost a month now and it still not fully healed. I guess this hit me rather hard as like me she…[Read more]
