Another quick update, Had my 2nd stem cell treatment in early July with a checkup with my pulmonary Dr at the end of August. Based on what my Dr said, the medical community has little belief in stem cell treatment for IPF or COPD even though testimonials of patients that have gone through with the treatment claim that they have seen […] View

Embarrashed that I have not followed up on this treatment. I did not notice any difference after going through with this treatment. My oxygen level is about the same sitting still, but getting out of breath faster than 5 years years ago. Consider myself lucky that I am still able to get out of bed in the morning and can take care of myself.

I have been on Esbriet since being diagnosed with IPF 6 years ago. Taking 3 capsules 3 times a day – 267MG. Had side effects (stomach problems) at first, but then I read somewhere to take protein before taking the medication and that has helped. I am 80 years old and one side effect I have is dizziness when first getting out of a chair or standing…[Read more]

I was diagnosed with IPF 6 years ago and have been taking Esbriet since. Before I take my 3 pills 3 times a day, I eat some protein, a slice of cheese, or slice of sandwich meat, and egg or ……. This seems to help me not getting an upset stomach or heartburn. Hope this may help.

    Regards – Rune

Was diagnosed with IPF in June of 2026. My doctor suggested a biopsy which I did to verify I had IPF. The doctor then prescribed Esbriet. If I was going to do this again I would not go through with a biopsy, and instead ask the doctor if his treatment would be different if IPF was not verified. I may still ask him that question when I see him in…[Read more]

Just a quick update – I went through with the stem cell procedure last week. Spent 2 days at the lung institute in Dallas. The procedure was painless. Was told it will take about 2 weeks before any improvement can be noticed. I should point out that I have been doing well on the Esbriet treatment and my oxygen level has been fairly constant. A…[Read more]

Hi @runewh, this is so good to know, thank you so much for sharing. I remember you saying you were going to look into it but I didn’t know you were going ahead with it. Glad to hear it was painless, and I’m curious to hear if you notice any improvement. Will you share with us in terms of how you are feeling and if you feel any noticeable…[Read more]

Rune Harboe replied to the topic Best way to take Esbriet in the forum Esbriet (Pirfenidone) 4 years, 10 months ago

I have been taking Esbriet for 2 years and had problems in the beginning with heartburns. I am taking 9 tablets a day and found that if I eat some protein before taking my tablets and some protein afterwards, I am doing fine. I eat a piece of cheese with a cracker before and after and for me that works. This may not work for everybody, but may be…[Read more]

    Hi Charlene,

Thank you for the additional threads regarding stem cell research. I had not seen this information before – thank you!

I am seriously thinking of going through the process and will post the results, if and when. Would be interested in getting in contact with Pat since she has gone through  the procedure. Also, I would also be…[Read more]

I am wondering if anyone out there has considered a stem cell procedure for improving lung function for IPF patients. The Lung Health Institute I have been told has had some success with their procedure. They have testimonials on their Website that are very positive. https://lunginstitute.com/testimonials/nancy-h/

I am curious to know if anybody has considered or used the stem cell procedure as outlined by the Lung Health Institute? When I talked to them I believe I heard they tell me they have a 76% success rate in improving the lung function for IPF patients. I will talk to my pulmonary dr next time I see him about the procedure.

Hi Rune, this is an excellent question as I know many are interested in stem cell therapy for health lung tissue regeneration. I would be really curious to hear if anyone has considered this, or begun the steps to inquiring about it at their facility. So far no one has mentioned it, but people join our forums every day, each with their own…[Read more]
