I thank all the folks who responded to my questions. Based on the info you shared along with extensive reading, our first week on the med was a success. NO GI problems! I’m very aware that can change, but it was a good start and I can only hope it will continue. Fingers crossed!

My 88 yr old husband is the patient and I’m his spouse and caregiver. He takes 150 mg in middle of breakfast and middle of dinner. We’ve made some meal changes that have worked for HIS system so far. In addition to eating very slowly, a few of his dietary changes include:

    — chicken patty at breakfast with a banana and toast or banana bread. Herbal tea.

    — mid morning snack of protein shake (Alani or Premier Protein, each 30 mg protein)

    — Lunch is typically a meat and cheese sandwich, drink of flavored carbonated water (carbonation helps him eat more slowly) and 1 homemade chocolate chip cookie (for real, yup. He couldn’t give up the cookie!) I sometimes include small bowl of homemade applesauce.

    — Afternoon optional snack of protein drink

—Dinner of a non fatty meat or fish and a vegetable (mashed potatoes or rice or carrots or a spinach square). Sometimes include piece of toast. Dessert of Greek yogurt with berries. Sometimes has a protein bar instead for dessert. Carbonated beverage.

Hub’s identical twin brother died 5 years ago with advanced IPF. He lost tremendous amount of weight and was very frail. So I have significant concerns about my husband’s diet. This twin brother died at height of Covid which made getting the help he needed terribly difficult. Others in this group may have faced similar problems in 2020.

Again, thanks to all who shared and continue to share personal experiences
