Short Bio

I am a 78 year old male, diagnosed in late 2018.  A biopsy in Dec 2018 concluded I have IPF.  Opted to start Ofev 150mg twice daily in Jan 2019.  I was unable to tolerate this dosage, (poor blood work, loosing weight, and diarrhea) so reduced to 100mg twice a day.  Tolerating this pretty good but cannot eat greasy, spicy, and many other foods that go along with living in South Louisiana.  My lung function tests are still pretty stable with my oxygen levels going down to 85/86 with work or exercise, but returning to 95 or better after resting a few minutes.  I have the pulmonary function test every 6 months and an x-ray or scan yearly.  I’m told the results continue to be stable, which is probably due to an early diagnosis.

Best advice for PF symptom management

Stay as active as possible.  Doctor says to keep the unaffected part of my lungs as healthy as possible.  I take enough diarrhea medicine as needed to stay under control.  Just not possible for me to follow the best diet all the time.  I keep pushing forward, just a little slower when my body says its had enough. Not sure all the tiring is due to age or IPF.
