Biography

I found this site in search of info regarding the risks vs benefits of Ofev for my mother.  She is 79 yrs old. Apparently diagnosed with IDL and a lung nodule in July 2017.  Widowed about the same time.  Came to discover that my dad had taken care of Mom far more than we knew.  Eventually, we began to realize the behavior we were seeing was more than just grief over the loss of Dad.  In 2019, Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia.  I have since become involved in her medical care.  Breathing has become much worse.  Finally obtained a referral back to a pulmonologist. They are talking of rxing Ofev.  I question whether the benefits outweigh the side effects for someone with increasing severe cognitive impairment.  I want & she wants quality of life above quantity.  Not being able to breathe well is not good quality by any means, but perhaps oxygen would be a better place to start than a medication that appears to cause GI upset, especially in someone who is experiencing increasing difficulty with daily activities including matters such as personal hygiene.  Am looking for feedback & input from those that are in a better position to know.
