  • I live in Des Moines, IA. I have a local pulmonologist but I am being evaluated at the Univ of Iowa for a double lung transplant. U of I is about 115 miles away. I have not decided yet if I will go thru with the transplant. I am at 6 lpm resting and 15 lpm with exertion.

I just changed over last week and so far, it is great. I am at 3-4 LPM resting and 8-10 with exertion. My previous setup allowed me to refill my canisters myself but it was a very slow process. I could empty a tank in less than 30 minutes and it took over 3 hrs to fill. With my LOX, a comparably sized container last 3 to 4 times as long and fills in less than  4 minutes. The biggest issue is that providers don’t make near as much money on LOX as regular O2 and many are phasing it out. Fortunately, my provider still offers it so I asked my pulmonologist to write me a script. It is a great option for heavy O2 users. I still have concentrators that I use while at home.

Charlene    Once we started looking at lungs, it took about a year. We spent about 2 years looking for heart issues. I had 2 angiograms about 2 years apart and seeing no change, they sent me to a pulmonary specialist.  Once there, I did a bronchoscopy, but the results were inconclusive. We then did the full lung biopsy and  determined it to be IPF. I am now trying to decide if I am going to try Esbriet. I have joined a fitness/rehab clinic that provides the O2 needed and it does seem to be making a difference. My doctor has only suggested the Esbriet but I will discuss why at my next appt. The end of February.

My final diagnosis was in November of 2017. I have questions rather than advice. I am on 2 LPM resting and 8 LPM while active. I am thinking of going on Esbriet and wondering about the side efffects and such. Any opinions?

I have not discussed this with my doctor yet but when i have a shortness of breath attack, I turn my air up to 10 or 15 LPM’s and work on slow deep breaths. I do understand the panic and not really being able to focus, but that is what helps me the most. I am on 2 LPM quiet and 8 LPM during exertion.

    I believe you take 3 of the 801’s a day instead of 9 267’s

    3×801=2403

    9×267=2403
