Short Bio

I have 4 grown up daughters and 4 grandchildren , 2 boys,2 girls. Trained as a Staff Nurse in Belfast and finally ended up as a Health Visitor. After spinal surgery was offered early retirement so I returned to study at University attaining a degree in Social Science with History my main subject. Also studied Irish Migration and the Diaspora. However I decided on a job as support worker with adults with learning disability. To my surprise I absolutely loved it! However the sting in the tail is I noticed I was becoming breathless just going about my work. Went to gp who took me seriously and referred me for further investigation. IPF was final diagnosis about 6 yrs ago.I was able to live a full life with exercise , swimming ,Pilates and tai chi. Plus my history reading and research kept me busy. Then covid struck and all my exercise classes were cancelled and I’m ashamed to say I did so little except daily dog walks.I am now on supplemental oxygen and a recent scan has shown ‘ severe fibrosis’. That is status quo.
