There seem to be good many medications that have side effects of some sort or other. Some minor and some worth talking with your GP about.
I too have loose motions from time to time, and stop taking OFEF for a day to allow the gut to calm down. I also seem to have developed an intolerance to Gluten, which can be a problem if the wrong food is eaten. Many foods may have wheat in minor quantities and may not always be mentioned on the lable.
A lot of this can be tolerated with care and observation to your diet I am sure.

Thank you for the comments above.
I have only just noticed this topic on the Forums. I have noticed more problems with cramping calf muscles, particularly in the morning when I first wake and stretch out before getting up. For these cramps, I get up smartly and stand and drink some water. The cramps instantly vanish. Now the comments from others make me wonder about Ofef being a cause of this.
I do drink plenty of water, tea but minimum of one cup of coffee a day. Magnesium capsule in the evening. I am also on a Simverstatin tablet at night also. These are known to reduce muscle strength and I have noticed this too, but being getting in my 80th year will also be a factor in loss of muscle strength and perhaps cramps also.

I have to have the odd day free of Ofef when the stomach and daiareah gets bad. I also find that a loperimide capsule helps greatly at onset.

That’s the spirit!
I am too old for a lung transplant but still doing well enough after 7 years since diagnosis. Began Ofef in 2018 after participating in the trial of pamrevlumab.
I am still moderately active, doing shorter walks than in the past and at a slower speed. I play an afternoon of lawn bowls at least once a week.

MemberJune 30, 2022 at 8:23 pm in reply to: Why do IPF patients lose weight and how to helpThank you Christie. I am not too worried about my gradual weight loss. My bmi is too high anyway and after two hips being replaced a number of years ago, some less weight takes the load off major joints. I will follow your advice on nutrition needs. Tony.

MemberJune 30, 2022 at 2:29 pm in reply to: Why do IPF patients lose weight and how to helpWe were told at a Better breathing class this week, that weight loss can be because of poor breathing. Lack of oxygen starves the muscles and to make this up the body tends to absorb firstly fat and then muscle condition. I imagine that diarrhea also can have some effect, as nutrient is lost from the body system. My weight and muscle condition has reduced slowly over time probably because of my IPF of seven years or so.
