korean traditional medicineSeo Hyo-seok, a specialist in Korean traditional medicine, is visiting the United States for a week to promote his unique technique for the treatment of chronic lung conditions like asthma, atopic dermatitis, pulmonary fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The doctor is the head of the Pyunkang Korean Medicine Hospital, with “Pyunkang” being the joining of the words “pyun,” which means tonsils, and “kang” that means wellness.

One may say that Seo is showcasing the treatment practices of the “healthy tonsils” korean medicine hospital for the American patient population and science community, and he will be in New York this week to talk about his novel technique. Seo will attend the US East Coast Korean Thanksgiving Festival, which is one of the biggest Korean-American festivals in the country, where he will be hosting a lecture on Korean medicine. In addition, he is also going to present a session about health for Chinese attendees, and will provide free health consultations.

The 69-year-old doctor has been focusing on diseases of the lungs during the last 41 years, as he believes that the health of the tonsils are the first step in having healthy lungs, as well as increasing longevity. The treatment developed by Seo is tailored to strengthen the lungs and improve the patient’s ability to utilize oxygen, since in Korean traditional medicine “it is believed that the very basic energy which operates the human body is generated in the lungs,” he explained.

“The lungs are the organs that let us interact with nature and its energy, and a lot of diseases are caused by not keeping (the lungs) healthy.” Seo is responsible for the development of a Korean herbal medicine called Pyunkagtang, which is created from liquid distilled from some 10 natural medicinal ingredients. Seo believes that diseases like rhinitis, asthma and atopic dermatitis are able to be treated through the improvement of the patients’ lung functions.

The Korean traditional medicine doctor claims he has been able to cure 123,000 patients suffering from atopic dermatitis, rhinitis, or asthma, as well as 32,000 other patients with lung-related diseases, including people with pulmonary emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis and bronchiectasis — all of which have received help from Pyunkang. “Those who were in the fatal stages of lung and biliary tract cancers also expanded their life span by some six months after taking Pyunkangtang,” Seo explained.

Seo is currently dedicated to promoting the unique treatment, in addition to raising awareness of the importance of lung health. “I am certain that these (chronic) conditions are not at all incurable, but in fact actually very easily curable,” he said, as he believes that Korean traditional medicine is an alternative for these patients. His goal is to improve the maximum human lifespan in 30 years, investing in his treatment technique, as well as in the promotion of lung health worldwide.

“I am thinking of this as the beginning of a 10-year project,” Seo added. “Some may think this is a rather reckless try, but if someone in the US who suffers from a lung-related disease sees the ad and gets his or her healthy life back, nothing can be more rewarding. I am trying to let more people around the world (who have this particular chronic illness) know that there is hope.”
