PFF Summit 2019 in Texas to Present the Latest Research Affecting the PF Community
The pulmonary fibrosis (PF) community is invited to attend the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation‘s PFF Summit, which is the largest healthcare meeting on PF, offering data on the latest research. Attendees will get the chance to learn more about the potential of DNA sequencing and targeted therapies to improve personalized medicine and patient outcomes.
The meeting will be held Nov. 7–9, 2019, at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, Texas.
The conference offers sessions for PF patients, families of patients, healthcare providers, caregivers, and researchers from the academic and private sectors. Experts in the field will also present their experience in treating and collaborating with PF patients.
“The PFF Summit is the premier international meeting that brings together physicians, nurses, patients, caregivers and researchers who have a shared mission of working together to advance the care of people with pulmonary fibrosis,” Joseph Lasky, PhD, co-chair of the PFF Summit 2019 and chair of the research review committee for the PFF, said in a press release.
The meeting will have specific sessions for patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, researchers, and industry members.
Sessions aimed at PF patients and caregivers include topics such as research and clinical trials, the use of supplemental oxygen, palliative care, mindfulness and mental health, and lung transplant.
Healthcare professionals can attend meetings about continuing medical education and maintenance of certification for physicians, and continuing educational programs for nurses and pharmacists. All programs offer educational activities aimed at developing further knowledge, skills, and professional performance.
Research experts will also have the opportunity to present their work. Keynote speaker Edith Perez, PhD, will talk about how the knowledge from her research in breast cancer can be used to improve the care of patients with PF. Perez is a professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic.
As director of Stakeholder Engagement at Duke University, Bray Patrick-Lake will share her experience in empowering patients to actively participate in clinical trials.
Researchers can submit abstracts — a summary depicting their scientific research — for a poster presentation at the summit. Registration for poster presentations with abstract submission opens on June 10 and closes on Aug. 16 at 5 p.m. EDT.
