Singer-songwriter Mary Barry posted on Facebook that she’s been suffering for almost two years with Pulmonary Fibrosis. The Canadian singer felt it was about time to open up to her friends, family and fans about the deadly disease she has been struggling with.

On her Facebook post she says: “Inspired by the honesty and bravery of Janet Edmonds, along with Tiffany Martin, Ron Hynes and the late Gerry Squires, it is now my turn to put this in writing and share it with you. I have been diagnosed with a lethal lung condition for which there is no cure in the allopathic medical world (Pulmonary Fibrosis). There, I’ve said it. Now it’s real.

I’ve been carrying this around with me for almost two years – a long time indeed, considering the general prognosis is between two and five years from diagnosis, with the median being 2.5 years. I guess I hoped that by not speaking about it, it would somehow miraculously disappear. I didn’t want to hide it, but I didn’t quite know how to share it. (…) My condition is getting worse and I didn’t want for something to happen without my having a chance to tell you that I love you all, and that I won’t give up either. I am a fighter and a believer, and with faith and trust I jump, and hope there is a net.”
