In this Information Television Network film, the series Healthy Body, Healthy Mind looks at the challenges doctors and patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) face on a daily basis.

Read our list of five questions you should ask your doctor about pulmonary fibrosis.

The film explains that there are approximately 128,000 new cases of IPF each year in the U.S. and around 40,000 deaths each year from the disease—around the same amount of people who die from breast cancer. IPF patients describe how the symptoms of the disease—shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, and a chronic cough—affect their everyday life and the treatment they’re receiving.

Some of the country’s leading lung doctors explain the challenges they face trying to treat an illness that is difficult to diagnose and at the moment impossible to cure.

Find out more about how pulmonary fibrosis is treated.
