Bernabé Williams Sr. was a major influence in his son’s life and was the one who encouraged him to play baseball. Williams Sr. passed away from the disease in 2001 and since then Bernie has been an advocate for the disease, increasing awareness through his Breathless Campaign in conjunction with Boehringer Ingelheim.
