Please excuse the ‘mental space’ I am in right now as I write this forum topic. I am cold, feeling achy, dealing with an ongoing headache and very tired despite a good night’s sleep. I wanted to capture how I felt on the forums, as I know many of you can relate to the feeling of just being tired of feeling sick and tired. I hope this post makes many of you feel less alone or isolated, as living with a chronic lung disease like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) can be very lonely!

Here in Canada, we had the first big snowfall of the season last night and the stress of driving home in the poor weather conditions, plus the extreme cold has left my body feeling achy and chilled. I also have to problem-solve how to be proactive about getting the snow cleared from my driveway in order to be able to get to work in the mornings. Last year I wrote a column about added expenses associated with having IPF and sometimes the reality of this drags me down a bit. Snow removal in the winter and lawn care in the summer are prime examples for this, as I can no longer do these tasks on my own.

Since the weather has drastically changed (it was +15 degrees early last week) I think I am dealing with an ongoing headache until the weather / pressure settles out a bit. This has been very frustrating, as the intensity of these headaches really interfere with my ability to complete tasks during the day. I also am just tired of feeling tired in general, which I know goes hand-in-hand with this disease. It’s just the way it is unfortunately! I miss the days of feeling well rested, and haven’t had one of those days in a really long time.

Well, now that I’ve gotten this off my chest I need to go find something to do that will make me happy. I let myself ‘wallow’ in these feelings only for so long as they aren’t productive, so off I go to try and find something that will make me feel better. The delicate dance of living with IPF continue….

Can you relate to these feelings of just being ‘sick of feeling sick and tired’?

How do you counter those feelings, or what do you do that tends to help?
