I in the early stages of this disease and not on oxygen. I find when snow is approaching my breathing is more labored. Guessing it is due to heavier air. Makes me very anxious and makes me think about the disease more than usual. I try to do things to keep my mind off of it but it’s hard.

Hi, I am a senior (81) and on oxygen 24 hours. Also, I always wear a tank when outside. If it is cold then a paper mask does help. Yes, I do use the snow blower for about a half hour. My lung capacity is at 35% which means there are only a few minutes that I can move without oxygen. About every 15 minutes I stop, pull off gloves and measure oxygen levels on an oximeter.
You can do most anything, albeit a little slower, a little shorter in time, not very far. I like the good news; we all can still do things.

I’m one of the lucky IPF patients that has minimal problems, however, I do find it harder to breathe in cold weather. I wear warm clothing, in layers, & find that it is helpful to wrap a scarf loosely around my mouth & nose when outdoors or wear a mask to keep the air I breathe warmer & less of an “assault” on my lungs.
