Studies have shown that white blood cells (also known as myeloid cells) can help resolve scarring in the lungs of IPF patients, thanks to a protein called (TNF)-related apoptosis-inducing ligand, or TRAIL.

Experts believe there is more work to be done in order to fully understand how TRAIL+ myeloid cells can be leveraged to treat IPF, but you can read more about why TRAIL is being proposed as an attractive therapeutic target in IPF here: https://pulmonaryfibrosisnews.com/2018/04/30/specific-myeloid-cells-discovered-resolve-lung-fibrosis-in-mice/

Were you aware of this research before reading this article? What other research news are you excited to share?
