A new study by Iqra Mumal, MSc, published in the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology” suggests that statins, widely prescribed to lower cholesterol levels and prevent heart disease, may be an effective treatment for IPF. I was in one of the original Lipitor studies for 5 years back in the 1990s. When it ended, I learned I’d been on 10mg QD. They increased my dosage immediately to 20mg QD, and within a few years, they increased it again to 40mg QD which I’ve been on ever since. Statins have been prescribed to tens of millions around the world over the past 25 years and are widely available. It’s certainly something that bears monitoring by our community. This study was also published on pulmonaryfibrosisnews.com on Jan 28, 2020.

    • Thank you Jerry for sharing your story regarding the Lipitor studies. This new research certainly gives us something to ponder. Mark
