Anyone know what antidepressant is safe to take with Esbriet? I can’t seem to get an answer from the people who should know.

The possibility of elevated liver enzymes is the reason for blood tests every few months so anything that can add to that problem needs to be monitored, I was told initially that Esbriet did not interfere with any food or other meds.but on it;s own can elevate liver enzymes so logic dictates caution. I don’t drink much at all any more cause it doesn’t taste good to me now. If I am having a lot of pain for what ever reason I take either aspirin or Aleve.

It is interesting to me that I have COPD, Emphysema and IPF but I rarely ever cough.

Personally I would not take prednisone for any reason. Or any steroids if I could help it.

I had some issues with upset stomach at first until I started swallowing the pills with a bite of food in my mouth at the same time, any thing worked, half a banana was the easiest but I have done it with other things bread, crackers, almost anything enough to swallow with the pills. It worked very well for me.

have COPD, Emphysema & IPF I hardly ever cough and have no mucus or phlegm, which is a good thing I think. I have been on Esbriet fora little over 3 yrs and was doing very well after I figured out how to take it so I wouldn’t get nauseousness. Then because of Covid, transportation problems and Dr. being booked solid for months in advance a year went by without an appointment so he wouldn’t renew my prescription and I can not get an appointment with anyone else either until Nov so I am off the meds. I have to say I don’t feel bad yet I even feel a little better than when I was on the meds, but I know that won’t last, I just hope I can live without too many complications until my appointment in Nov. Yes I tried every Dr. Personally I think it is criminal.

I had trouble at first until I found that if I would swallow the pills with a bite of food (bananas work well) I didn’t have that problem any more. I also took a pro-biotic (prescribed). I don’t think it is wise to stop and start
Esbriet if you can help it. Ask your pulmonary Dr..

Carlo, don’t forget to cover up and use sun screen with Esbriet. The rash is very uncomfortable and you have to stop the meds until it clears up.

I was given a choice of meds, I didn’t choose OfEV because of the heart side affects, heart disease runs in my family so I thought sensitivity to the sun was a better option, however I am a sun worshiper having grown up living at the beach so, it is a little difficult. I over exposed once and broke out in a rash and had to stop the Esbriet until it cleared up. Not much fun.

Wine doesn’t taste very good to me anymore either, I still drink it once in a while but not much.

I am surprised that taking D-3 supplements is not part of the regime as lack of sun on the skin depletes ones body and causes other health problems. I have also found taking magnesium is necessary and Omega 3 along with vit E is very helpful and B12 liquid held under the tongue for people over50 as you have lost the enzyme that digest it after 50 yrs old. All of those things help alleviate the side effects and made me feel a lot healthier.

The documentation you get with the Esbreit tells you to stay out of the sun. If you don’t you will break out with a rash. You need to supplement with Vitamin D3, very important.
