As for your weight loss question, yes, I would say it is something very common with IPF patients. Of course I am no physician, but there are a couple of things I’ve been told about weight loss and why it can affect patients like us. 1) due to the GI side effects of medications, or just feeling lousy in general as I know you aren’t on the meds; this can impact what we eat and significantly reduce our calorie intake when we don’t feel like eating. I know in end-stage, even chewing foods can be exhausting so patients can be turned away from eating. Of course this can cause weight loss. 2) I’ve heard from my friend who is an RN that our bodies use significantly more calories just trying to breathe when our lungs are so compromised, that our day-to-day activities can compare to a runner in terms of how many calories are burned. This would contribute to weight loss as well.
