I have the same issues.  It seems like IPF has all the baseline symptoms for many health issues.  My allergies and sinuses are terrible these past few months, and I wasn’t so sure why, but after seeing your posts, I feel that allergies may make things worse.  My doctor suggested Coricidin for High BP which I have, it’s OTC and seems to be helping.  I also use Saline Nasal spray and Triple antibiotic cream for my nasal passages which was recomended by my ENT.  I use it twice a day applied with a Q-tip for dried up nose while on O2 and I don’t get the terrible scabbing inside like I used to. I was using AYR saline gel, but since it’s water based it didn’t last long.  The Anti-B cream has no petroleum jelly in it.  I get terrible nasal drip mostly at night and a lot of coughing in the morning. A cup of hot ginger/lemon tea with honey with a lemon slice really helps for cough and gets the phlegm up.  Hope this helps a little.  Thank you for posting the question.

I am glad we are on this topic.  I am into my 3rd year with IPF and am on OFEV.  Just recently I’ve been experiencing a lessened appetite and taste differences.  Also, if I eat too much, it does affect my breathing, probably to the diaphram pressing up againt the lungs.  Yesterday, I went to a luncheon and ate a little too much, I noticed a rise in heart rate and some shortness of breath.  This lasted into dinnertime  which concerned me because I needed to eat in order to take my OFEV which requires a substantial amount for me.  I was finally able to eat around 7:30 in order to take my pill.  I think I will just eat very small meals (snacks) throughout the day, avoiding a larger lunch.  My pulmo doc told me in the very beginning that I would lose weight, but I have not as of yet after 3 years.  I’m thankful that I’m still able to tolerate the OFEV, and that it’s only 2 pills per day.  Would love to hear from others.

Hi Charlene, I just joined the forum and would like to comment regarding hair thinning.  I was diagnosed with IPF Oct. of 2015 and started OFEV on 2/2016 and have been on it ever since.  I have noticed hair thinning over the past few years, but it seems to run in our family on my mother’s side, so I’m not sure what’s causing it.  No one in my family has IPF (that I know of).  I am 76 years old and am also on other medications ,  which may also be contributing to my hair loss/thinning.  I haven’t seen it as a side effect from Ofev in particular.  I’m taking Biotin daily for hair, skin and nails, so hopefully that will help.
