The digital healthcare company patientMpower recently released a new platform called patientMpower for Lung Transplant for patients with pulmonary fibrosis (PF) and other conditions who have received a lung transplant.

In January, patientMpower was one of three winners of the $1 million IPF Catalyst Challenge, an award given to projects focused on improving the quality of life for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) patients and their caregivers. The patientMpower Lung Transplant app was created with the company’s share of the $1 million from the challenge.

The lung transplant platform is the latest app release from patientMpower. The company worked with lung transplant specialists and recipients to create a solution tailored to the complex needs of people who received a lung transplant.

“It was a natural progression for us to develop a platform for lung transplantation based on our work in pulmonary fibrosis, as some PF patients will receive a lung transplant as their disease progresses,” Colin Edwards, chief scientific officer at patientMpower, said in a news release.

“Our new platform enables people who have received a lung transplant to be tracked by their expert healthcare team remotely in real-time, using integrated monitors, offering reassurance and convenience,” he added.

The platform seeks to help healthcare teams monitor their patients closely and as early as possible after a transplant, to detect any potential problems in a timely manner.

The new lung transplant platform enables patients to monitor everything related to their lung health after a transplant, and then share this information with their health team in real-time.

The app uses integrated monitors to track lung function and oxygen saturation. These include spirometry — a pulmonary function test that measures the rate of air flow — and pulse oximetry, a noninvasive method for monitoring oxygen levels in the blood.

These features allow patients to track and share data related with temperature, medication use, breathlessness, and activity. Patients can also set medication reminders and receive air quality and weather alerts.

The patientMpower for Lung Transplant app is free and available for download now in the Google Play store for android mobile phones and in the Apple store for all iOS devices (iPhones, iPads, and others).

This is not the first app patientMpower has created. The company developed the patientMpower for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) app, which was designed to help patients manage their disease as well as their treatment plan, including appointment times and medication reminders. The app connects directly to a patient’s healthcare center, allowing doctors to ask for and receive data, as well as answer any pressing questions.

The company’s experience with the IPF app was pivotal in its development of the patientMpower Lung Transplant app. For more information, please visit this link.
