3 types pulmonary fibrosis clinical trials

Clinical trials are well-designed studies that collect information about new treatments for diseases and disorders. Most of the time, this means medications, but clinical trials can also test other things, such as stem cell therapies, surgical techniques, tests for diagnosis, medical devices, and more.

There are several types of clinical trials, as well as the researches types. In this list, we’ve listed three types of clinical trials you should know about (source: Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation website)

1. Interventional studies: These clinical trials have the research subjects assigned by the investigator to a treatment or other intervention, and their outcomes are measured.

2. Observational studies: These type of clinical trials just observe the individuals (no intervention in the study) and their outcomes are measured by the investigators.

3. Expanded access studies: And finally, these clinical trials are those in which the FDA allows manufacturers to provide investigational new drugs to patients with serious diseases or conditions who cannot participate in a clinical trial.
