5 Pulmonary Fibrosis Questions for Your Doctor
If you’ve recently been diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, there are probably loads of questions running through your mind.  Here are some of the most important questions you should ask your doctor according to the American Lung Association.
1. “What is pulmonary fibrosis?”
Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) literally means scarring of the lungs.  Very simply, scarring occurs in the tissue and space around the air sacs in the lungs making it difficult for oxygen to pass through the air sacs and into the blood.

2. “How did I get pulmonary fibrosis?
There are many environmental factors and lifestyle choices that can lead to pulmonary fibrosis such as working in occupations where you might be exposed to fine dust particles, toxins, and chemicals. Smoking is also a risk factor. Having an autoimmune disease puts you at a higher risk of developing PF. Some medications and treatments such as chemotherapy can also lead to the disease. When no cause for the onset of pulmonary fibrosis can be found, it is called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

3. “What are the symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis?”
The mains symptoms of PF are shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, weight loss, a persistent dry cough, and clubbing of the fingertips. You will need to discuss all possible symptoms with your doctor.
