One Family’s Battle With Pulmonary Fibrosis

According to a metro.co.uk report, a woman from Ballycastle, Northern Ireland has been diagnosed with the same disease that killed her mother and two of her siblings.

Sixty-five-year-old Una McMillan was stunned to find that she had been diagnosed with the same chronic lung disease that took the lives of three members of her immediate family. Both Una’s brother and sister had recently passed away from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and she lost her mother to the disease years ago.

Una is one of 32,500 people living with pulmonary fibrosis in the U.K., a condition that takes one in a hundred lives in the country—more than most commonly-known cancers. However, as Una found out, very few people are aware of pulmonary fibrosis. She hopes to raise both awareness and funds for the British Lung Foundation by taking part in a 15-mile bike ride on Easter Monday.
