#TBT – Jerry Lewis Living with Pulmonary Fibrosis
Jerry Lewis is an American comedian, actor, singer, film producer, screenwriter and film director. Born March 16, 1926, he is known mostly for his humor in film, television and radio. His career began in 1946 with an act with Dean Martin (who died Christmas Day, 1995, of respiratory failure from COPD), forming the team of Martin and Lewis. They performed together in nightclubs, on television, on the radio, and in movies until 1956, when they decided to go their separate ways.
In May 2001, Lewis was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and doctors prescribed the steroid prednisone, which helped him breathe but left him 50 pounds heavier and drastically changed his appearance. Even though pulmonary fibrosis is a fatal lung disease which causes scarring of the lungs, Jerry Lewis keeps battling it, along with other health problems.
