The American actor, film director and activist died July 1, 2004, of respiratory failure from pulmonary fibrosis with congestive heart failure. He left behind 14 children as well as over 30 grandchildren. A cultural icon, Brando is most famous for his Academy Award-winning performances as Terry Malloy in On the Waterfront (1954) and Vito Corleone in The Godfather (1972).
