Setting Intentional New Year’s Resolutions.
Despite many of the struggles I’ve been having with my workplace over the past few months, I am incredibly thankful for something it has taught me over the years. The difference between being intentional in something you do, versus just doing it for no reason or because you think you should. I have applied this to many aspects of my life including setting New Year’s resolutions.
I typically have mixed feelings about New Year’s resolutions, because I believe that anyone can ‘better’ themselves at any time throughout a year, not just on January 1st. With that said, I also sometimes like setting New Year’s resolutions, just simply to see if I can learn a new skill or try a new goal. The biggest thing for me though when it comes to setting resolutions, is being intentional about them.
Back in January of this past year (2018) I wrote a social clip on Pulmonary Fibrosis News about tips to setting intentional New Year’s resolutions.
I just re-visited this clip as I sit down to think about what I want to focus on in 2019. Since living with a life-threatening lung disease, like IPF, is very unpredictable; I like to be intentional about what I focus on in terms of resolutions for the upcoming year. While I like to set realistic goals, I need to also factor in the help I might need from others to achieve my goal, especially as my disease continues to worsen. This is why I am so intentional about setting resolutions – I don’t want to have to depend on anyone but myself to reach my goals.
If you’re interested, take a peak at my clip above if you are one to consider setting New Year’s resolutions. If you’d be comfortable, I am interested in hearing from you: what are some of your New Year’s resolutions as a patient living with IPF/PF?
I look forward to sharing mine with you once my list is finalized, and I can guarantee that continuing to support this forum with everything I can is on that resolutions/maintained goals list. Thank you all for being such a wonderful part of my 2018!
Charlene.
