  • DEHP and Latex free cannula source?

    Hello, all,

Kinda new here. I appreciate the willingness of people here who are willing to share their experiences with PF.

I’m looking for DEHP-free and Latex-free cannulas. When I worked with plastics in another life, I learned about plasticizers used in plastics to keep them pliable. DEHP is commonly used in cannulas and other medical equipment where softness and pliability are needed. Since I started on supplemental oxygen I noticed an oily substance—that resembles some plasicizers—in the nosepiece of the cannulas I’ve used in the last few months, which makes me leery of the health issues that might be connected to this stuff. Apparently somebody in California has concerns too, since its use in cannulas and other medical tubing is prohibited there (yeah, I know, California. . . ). I don’t know for sure that what I’m seeing is DEHP, but it feels like other plasticizers I’ve encountered.

In addition to my paranoia about the oily stuff in the cannulas, I’m sensitive to Latex, so I’m looking for a source for DEHP- and Latex-free cannulas. I’ve found a few on Amazon and some medical suppliers that sell in lots of 50. Does anyone have other sources?

    Thanks for any input!

    Pat
