Hi! Does anyone know if  in addition to IPF qualifying automatically for SS Disabilty, does it also make IPF patients eligible to get on Medicare before age 65? I can’t find that answer on line, so I assume not, but wanted to poll the collective mind. Thanks!

    Hello, Jill.

The short answer to your question is “yes”. From the Social Security web site (https://www.ssa.gov/disabilityresearch/wi/medicare.htm):

“Everyone eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits is also eligible for Medicare after a 24-month qualifying period. The first 24 months of disability benefit entitlement is the waiting period for Medicare coverage.”
