  • Hello, I’m Mike and I live, with my partner of sixty years, on the Queensland coast approximately a one hour drive north of Brisbane. I have recently been diagnosed with Combined Pulmonary Fibrosis and Emphysema. Having been a non smoker since 1979 so find it difficult to see that as a cause. We have a private hospital within a twenty minute drive and a local GP. Our local pharmacy delivers if we need and we reside in a residential retirement community where we have meals delivered daily. I do not have a local support group. I am a retired photo’ technician (microfilm systems) and still spend time making pictures. I am on 24/7 Oxygen therapy with home equipment supplied by the medical system. I had to fund my own portable and I understand that our private cover will contribute towards part of that expense.

I’ve been involved with photography all my working life; technical stuff like microfilm production and photofabrication. When we retired I took up bird photography and loved it. Now I have to carry oxygen equipment everywhere I go and I simply cant walk very far so no more birding. To take it’s place, I’ve started photography benchtop stuff like waterdrops colliding and macro. I’m told that I don’t have very long so I plan to keep busy.https://photos.app.goo.gl/6w37FPNifrhn72hM8

I have been recently diagnosed with CPFE and my pulmonologist speaks as though I’m dead already. I’m 78 and on oxygen 24/7 up to about 3.5 Ltrs/hour. I’m not able to do much but I don’t feel terribly unwell for 95% of the day. I’m told that I don’t have long to go but I just don’t feel that ill. It’s confusing. I’m in Queensland Australia

I asked my pulmonologist about Zinc and she, more or less, told me to avoid Dr Google and ‘Go home and enjoy a last Christmas’. I’m taking zinc anyway and have ordered some NADs.

Oh One other thing I take is CBD oil. I get kiara from Switzerland and put a few drops under my tongue at night.

My pulmonologist was critical of my talk of Zinc and has told me to ‘Go home and have a last Christmas with my family’. I have only been diagnosed recently (with CPFE) but suspect that I have had this for quite some years. I suspect that it’s Amiodarone toxicity because I have been a non smoker since 12th Oct 1979 ! Most of the time I do not feel ill at all although I do have Oxygen 24/7 and a very sore nose. I’m unable to peruse my usual pastime of wildlife photography so I have taken up watersplash photography which is keeping me busy and amused. I may even produce some competition quality pictures. I find that I am now to be under a Palliative care team. That makes me more determined than ever to outlive the lot of them. My best regards to you.

Hi Jose, I’m in a similar situation. I just got my bottle of NAD+ yesterday and I’ve been taking Zinc for a couple of weeks. I’m 78 and I don’t feel ill simply out of breath. My best wishes for you.
