Ofev was almost immediate Diarrhea. Even using OTC meds like Immodium was no help, but I tried to stick it out. I reduced the dose to 100 but that was no help. Eventually I stopped taking it. I walk often, which seems to be the best help I’ve found… Good Luck,

I will be starting a Trial with BI 1015550 out of Wash U in St Louis. It’s 12 weeks long and hoping to see good results . I tried taking Ofev but , the side effects were just too much (Diarrhea) . Even with Ofevs effectiveness, per the article. I was buying OTC meds to treat the side effects. Not much help for me . Congestion is another issue I have per the IPF.

I served at Ft Bragg from 1977-81 (82nd Airborne , 505th Parachute Infantry) . I’m not trying to draw any similarities here (especially with Vietnam and service there ). But I also was a Firefighter and a Paramedic for 32 years . 1982-2014. What were my exposures in that time period ? (smoke , insulation from structures during fires, etc. ) Firefighting foam, training /deployment in the military ? My current physical condition is by far, less critical, than many of you on this site, but , “I HAVE IPF”. I don’t know where to go from here ? It seems to me there is a lot of “questionable ” areas here ? I feel fortunate for my current situation. I could be worse than what I have read from many of you. I’m able to walk 2 miles daily , 3-4 days a week, weather permitting… (I’m 64). I’m not on oxygen yet. As an X Paramedic I’m trying to delay that, but it is most likely inevitable.

I wish I had something to help you. It seems I am the same. Just getting up in the morning I have excessive mucous and phlegm. I’ve told the Pulmonologist, but she has nothing to offer other than OTC meds like Mucinex. I take 30mg of Pseudoephedrine which helps some. I’ll be reading the responses to this. I also have this late in the evening as well.
