Charlie Boone died past Sunday at the age of 88. Boone was the WCCO Radio host who was the voice of mornings in Minnesota for nearly 40 years and one of its stars.

“Charlie was one of the greatest talents in the history of radio broadcasting, and certainly in the Twin Cities he was unparalleled,” said Mick Anselmo, market manager for CBS Radio in Minneapolis.

Charlie hosted his Saturday show until he was 83 years old and fully retired in 2010. He enjoyed his retirement in south Minneapolis, where he lived. Although his mind was clear to the end, he suffered from pulmonary fibrosis and his health deteriorated suddenly over the weekend. He died Sunday afternoon, November 22nd, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital surrounded by his loved ones.
