  Protect Your Lungs During Wildfire Season

  Extreme summer weather is ramping up in different ways across the US. For those of us in Western states especially, late summer means wildfire season. Last week I published a column with tips to protect your lung health during wildfire season. The main points are:

  1. Check your air quality regularly and learn how to use the AQI to modify your behavior
  2. Use effective filtration in your home
  3. Stay home and seal the good air in when the air outside is unhealthy
  4. Wear the correct respirator if you can’t avoid going out
  5. Be aware of other risks related to wildfire (like power outages) and make a plan for how to evacuate or find the power to run a concentrator
