This is Linda Gorman’s story: she used to be a self-labelled “control freak” believing she could control her health by exercising more, eating and sleeping better. But then she began to experience shortness of breath, and nothing she did helped.

She was eventually diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis (hypersensitivity pneumonitis). At the beginning, she tried to control her illness, but soon realised this disease would be with her for life. And that’s when she felt free.

Linda’s story is a lesson in not fighting the bad days, but using them to read great books, watch movies, talk to loved ones on the phone, and eat the foods we really enjoy.

Reading about Linda’s decision to let go – and quit worrying about what is out of our control – feels like a masterful lesson in self-care. What do you think?
