Nasal Cannula Management
Posted by Don on December 23, 2025 at 12:33 pmA follow-up question on taking oxygen at night. What tricks have you learned to keep your nasal cannula in place through the night?

I wear a tobaoggan or beanie at times when colder or the air set lower. Other times I place the canula up over nose between my eyes ,over my head with tube coming out the back of neck and the hat holding in place. Sounds strange but my ears like the break >L<

I make sure that I tighten the cord under my chin clear up to touching my skin. I also make sure that hose is out to the side, never under the covers.

I am extremely claustrophobic and can only take the thing in my nose for a few hours and have to take a break from it. It’s also very uncomfortable. I wish there was a better way, because I need oxygen more and more as this thing progresses.

I use a small piece of Nextape on either side of my face just in front of my ears.

I think a longer cannula on the side works for me. It can wrap around my neck a couple times, lol, before regrouping. Also the weight of the inline water trap helps to hold it.
Merry Christmas to all

Hi @DMoffett ,
I actually wear my cannula backwards at night to help it stay in place! I know it sounds weird, but the “v” part of the cannula I put at the back of my head and tighten it versus under my chin and this has worked really well for me as the only part of the cannula that is in front is the prongs in my nose. I know some people found this wasn’t helpful for them but it was a game-changer for me wanting my cannula to stay in place. Hope this helps!
