Thank you all for your kind thoughts and suggestions. I am planning on getting palpative care and have been talking occasionally with a mental health profesional. I understand the “good fortune” I have by being able to get things in order before leaving and am not really concerned about what happens after. My main concern is how I’m going. I’m not gonna pass in a hospital surounded by tubes and machines. I’m 70 now and life has been good with many good memories. Good Luck to All of You!!

Both good suggestions! I plan on getting a larger size coat so my machine can go inside the coat as well and actually went “mall walking” yesterday. I also bought a Serius polartec combo scarf https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018BGFF4?SubscriptionId=AKIAIBX4MGJBG42TO3NQ&tag=productsbestrv85760-20&asc_source=google&asc_campaign=99096&asc_refurl=https%3A%2F%2Fbestreviews.com%2Fbest-seirus-face-mask&cid=99

    which I think might work.

Thanks for all the great info. I’ve had IPF for about 7 years and just went on Oxygen 2 weeks ago. I appreciate all the info on machines, I’ve got a machine for nights and cylinders for day if I need them, but wasn’t aware of the dangers of not using them. It’s starting to get through to me. I fought as hard as I could, and after having 2 foot surgeries was nowhere near where I had been. I was uninformed of all the requirements to stay healthy and despite normally being in the high 80’s would exercise into the 70’s. Unaware of the damage I could do to myself. The Oxygen prescription came about after a particularly bad 6min walk test.
I’ve just started looking at machines and would like to figure out which ones would let me stay most active. I’ve done martial arts for 30+ years and would like to do the least strenuous parts of those as well as Kayaking, biking and Hiking.
Gonna check out LOX machines if anyone has any recommendations. Already talked w/companies about the Inogen and a couple other pulse machines.
I guess it’s Oxytime and I thank you all for sharing, makes me feel less like an old freak.

    Hi from the Frozen North!

I’m in Minnesota and It has been cold as Hell since December. The extremes of below about 10f really slowed me down even just walking my dogs! I used to get in at least 1 mile a day, quite often two but this winter the cold just stole my breath even with a mask. I’ve always been active in martial arts, kayaking and biking but 2 out of three of those don’t work well in snow. Since I was scheduled for foot surgery in early Jan I  decided to take up VR exersize with a Quest2 I bought last winter. The Supernatural program works well for me inside and I was getting my heart rate and breathing up 4-5 times a week before the surgery.

My Doctor often credited my exersize for the slow progression on IPF (7yrs now) and since I’ve been “on bed rest” from the surgery I’ve taken up chair yoga and sitting boxing till my foot heals.

I live by a saying, “be a shark, sharks die when they stop moving, Keep moving Be A Shark!” just bring it inside.

Thanks Meredith sounds like good advice. Part of who I am is taking care of and doing for other people but I’m learning what I can and can’t do. I don’t want to dump it all on my partner but am learning to ask and communicate my needs better.

    Good Luck!

    Hi Christine!

Im just doing a couple different Quest VR boxing programs in a swivel chair, supernatural and lite boxer . Both require movement and facing hence the swivel chair. rounds in both time out to aroung 2 minutes so I can catch my breath between.
