This is an amazing price for esbriet! I have used Cost Plus for other medications that cost much more than what my Medicare Part D insurance pays. Good for him for making this happen. It can help a lot of people.

I have a dry cough (I cough throughout the day) and am on Esbriet. I used to cough more when lying on one pillow when ready to go to sleep, but have added a pillow and my cough is much better as a result. Worth a try!

I was diagnosed in July 2019, at age 77, and did not tell my adult children for over a year. I agonized over this decision, but realized that being honest was the right thing to do. I called each of them and they very much appreciated it. I told them the name of the disease but did not go into detail about the seriousness of pulmonary fibrosis and how long I might live — who knows, anyway? They could look it up themselves if they wanted more information. My sister and my mother both died of a lung disease, but since I had always been so healthy, they were shocked (as was I) to find this out. My only symptoms are a dry cough and breathlessness when walking uphill (which I avoid!). Generally, when I think about making a decision I decide if I would regret it if I went in a certain direction and not the other.  I felt that my children would be even more upset if when I died I hadn’t told them. You have introduced them to the fact that you have a lung condition, which is a good first step. Best of luck!

When my Medicare Part D Insurance did not cover Esbriet, my pulmonologist’s pharmacy (at Cedar’s Sinai in Los Angeles) got me in touch with Genentech, the manufacturer, and I have been getting the medication for FREE for the last year and a half or so. Good luck! See below:

I too have been struggling to maintain my weight and not lose anymore. (I have lost about 10 pounds in the last year and a half.) I am eating foods I was very careful about before my diagnosis — like ice cream and cookies, which I now have every day! I am on esbriet and it has changed my appetite, food aversions etc. I have scheduled an appointment with a dietician to get some help with this.
