• Dangers of Excess Iron

    Hello Forum Members,

Researchers at the Stanford School of Medicine have just released an article on the dangers of excess iron in lung transplant recipients. I wanted to share the link so that the forum members here who are post transplant can be aware of this new literature: https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2018/02/iron-triggers-dangerous-infection-in-lung-transplant-recipients.html

As someone who has to take an iron supplement due to being low, this terrifies me a bit. My Doctor recommended an iron supplement to increase and maintain my iron stores. Perhaps this is something I should bring up to him! Has anyone else heard of this, or been told they need to increase their iron intake? It is interesting that the article states iron is like “fertilizer for aspergillus”. I won’t soon forget that statement….

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

    Cheers,
    Charlene
