For those of us living with a rare disease, we’re no stranger to medication side effects. I’ve lost count of the number of consent forms I’ve signed for medications or trials where the fine print lists potentially devastating side effects. Each time, I think they’ll never happen to me, but I was wrong.

A couple of weeks ago I received the news that I have substantial hearing loss, which my Audiologist believes is permanent, in one ear. I thought my hearing issues were related to lingering congestion from getting sick in November but alas, I was wrong. Based on the testing I’ve done, the Audiologist is consulting with my Pulmonologist to narrow down which medications have caused this devastating hearing loss.

I’m curious, has anyone else experienced hearing loss as a result of medication side effects while managing their IPF? Please share your experience if so!

    Charlene.
