• Non-Medicinal Allergy Relief

If where you live is anything like Ontario this spring, pollen is everywhere! You can see the little tuffs of pollen in the air, and unsurprisingly, people’s allergies are acting up as a result. I’ve heard a lot of people say in the last few weeks that their eyes are itchy, nose is running and they feel short of breath and are reliant on their inhalers. People living with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis(IPF), like many of us on these forums, do not need the added stress of allergies impacting our breathing.

I was wondering if anyone has found a non-medicinal allergy-symptom relief?

Since many of us are likely on a wide variety of medications, which each have their own interaction risks, I’m curious about the non-medicinal options for allergy relief. If you’ve found anything that works, please share with the forums!

I live in Virginia Beach, VA where there is often a very high pollen count & have allergies almost all year. I have found that using a saline nasal rinse helps some, although I have to resort to using Flonase nasal spray when the pollen is really bad.

I found a lot of relief from seasonal allergies when I lived in Louisiana. I used honey daily, made from bees within 100-mile radius of my home. It took many months but it was by far the best allergy treatment I’ve ever had. The theory is that by consuming minute amounts of local pollen, your body builds its immunity over time. Hope this is helpful!
