Hello all…
Are there acronyms you wish you had known or understood early in your diagnosis? PF and IPF in some ways is like a new language that you try to learn quickly. In a recent column here at Pulmonary Fibrosis News I wrote about creating an IPF dictionary.
Who can help build a dictionary here? What acronyms are you willing to share with the PF/IPF Community?
PFT – Pulmonary Function Test
FVC – Forced Vital Capacity and all the other PFT acronyms
6MW – 6 Minute Walk
POC – Portable Oxygen Concentrator
PAH or PH – Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension
UIP. Usual interstitial pneumonia. Another way of saying pulmonary fibrosis. This was noted in an early CT scan that I had.
Usual interstitial pneumonia ( UIP) is a form of lung disease characterized by progressive scarring of both lungs. [1] The scarring ( fibrosis) involves the pulmonary interstitium (the supporting framework of the lung). UIP is thus classified as a form of interstitial lung disease
