I was born 1942. Have had IPF as diagnosed for 4 1/2 years and started on pirfenidone just 3 months ago. Regarding your survey, I can say yes to questions 1, 2 and 3. As for scaring, I can’t say that it was seen before being diagnosed with IPF. Smoking is another question you can ask. I smoked cigarettes for 25 years quiting in 1986. Also what about anyone working with or around chemicals that were inhaled?
As for genetics, my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1994. They said it was caused by asbestos but I suspect it was IPF as he was on oxygen in the end. Additionally, my son who is 59 has been diagnosed with IPF as well.

Almost a year ago I started 50mg Zinc Picolinate daily. Along with my daily vitamin my zinc intake is a little above recommended max dosage. I don’t think it has done much for my fibrosis but I avoided a nasty virus that went through our household. I am 3 1/2 years into this ipf without meds.

Hi Wendy,
You are right; death hath no sting. I don’t worry about my own suffering as I think that will be handled. My big concern is family suffering through this and watching my discomfort. I am 80 so no big deal but I an sad to see that younger people have IPF and can’t imagine what they are facing.Mark

MemberOctober 19, 2022 at 9:40 pm in reply to: New Zoom meeting – taking the bull by the hornI have reached the end of year 3 after being diagnosed. My last lung function test had me at 74% but I feel I am getting worse. I do not take meds as they are too expensive and with unacceptable side effects. I am not on oxygen but have a portable concentrator.
I would like to hear from others.Mark Anderson
