Hello David, I also have had oily skin while being on Ofev. I went to my dermatologist yesterday because of pimples in my hairline. I seem to sweat easier. I believe  this is something that came with taking Ofev

Good morning Charlene, I was diagnosed with IPF last July. My breathing  capacity has decreased about 8 % per a barometric test last January. Going for another test end of July. I feel like my breathing hasn’t gotten worse, probably because of the Ofev I am On . We  sat around a camp fire this past weekend and yes the same as you the smoke really bothered my lungs.( I am struggling with the diarrea side effects though from the Ofev.)

  • Hi Charlene, its now been 6 months on Ofev for me. I have had three pulmonary function tests since July. My second one in October showed that I lost 8 % . It scared the heck out of me. The results from the last one in January of this year showed my breathing was back up to the original test in July. I realize the tests can very because of the person doing the test and how hard the patient tries but I believe that I have leveled out {at least temporarily} because a rigorous exercising program I am on and for sure the Ofev. Boehringer Patient Assistance Program sometimes helps with the copay with some patients. I hope your doing well.

I have been on  150 mg of  Ofev twice a day since August. I started out taking 20 mg of famotidine twice a day but after about 2 months I started getting cramps and minor diarrhea. I switched to 20 mg of Omeprazole once a day at least 30 minutes before my morning Ofev and make sure I take the Ofev with food. This took care of about 90 % of my stomach problems . Unrelated to this but I have begun to push myself on my eliptical workout and my cough has decreased. One year ago I could do 30 minutes on the eliptical very easily.  Two  weeks ago I struggled to do three minutes and now up to 5 minutes and feeling better physically and mentally. Don’t give up, push yourself to stay active. Thank you for letting me be part of this site.

I have had diarrhea problems with Ofev and realized my morning coffee was most of the problem. I developed gerd issues also but found that sipping on  a large glass of water with 2 table spoons of apple cider vinegar and honey has completely taken care of my gerd issues. I pour it in a water bottle and keep it with me most everywhere. It has been such a helpful simple thing.

  • I am 70 years old and literally climbed mountains for hunting up until a year ago and this last spring became short of breath.I was diagnosed with IPF in July of this year but in looking back to 2018 at my ct scans it had already started but but was missed by my primary doctor. My pulmonologist made me aware of Esbriet and Ofev on the day of my diagnoses. After him explaining the possible side effects of both I decided on Ofev.  It took a little while to get my insurance to approve it. ( a week seemed like a month because I felt every day counted) I have been on 150 mg twice a day of Ofev for only a week now but no side effects at all. I seem to be able to breath a little deeper now without coughing. My copay is about $2700 per month but it sounds like someone through CVS may cover the copay in the future. Thanks everyone for all your information.

Hi Liam, have you tried raising the head of your bed. When I raised the head of my bed  2  to 3 inches my night time coughing decreased by about 90 %.
